HBW Construction - Field Operations Manager

Company Overview:
HBW Construction, a well-respected commercial general contractor in the Washington, DC Metro, is seeking a manager for our field staff. HBW Construction has been providing the highest quality construction service in the DC Metro since 1969.

The Field Operations Manager is a high profile management position that reports directly to the President of the Company. The incumbent will be well versed in all aspects of commercial interior construction such as tenant work, building renovations, retail, medical and government buildouts.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
Under the direction of the President, the incumbent's accountabilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Management of between 50 - 70 Construction Superintendents and associated field personnel: Organize weekly meetings with project management staff to review manpower needs, lead and participate in scheduling adjustments to meet these needs. Conduct annual reviews and report results to the President, provide strong coaching, conflict resolution, relationship and team building skills and demonstrate the ability to influence and objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues.
  2. Interview and Hiring of Construction Supervisory Staff. Understanding Human Resources business processes and workflows to meet the ever changing needs of the Company. Incumbent assists in full-cycle recruitment and hiring including development of job descriptions. Provides guidance, input as well as hands, on support in hiring, selection, offer negotiations and onboarding ensuring processes are consistent.
  3. Coaching and Training of Construction Superintendents. Provide training and support for new staff to become effective superintendents. Ensure the company's culture by fostering and ensuring consistency across Company work practices and communicating the Company's values and objectives. Is a company steward through setting the tone for a culture of excellent customer service.
  4. Quality Control and Quality Assurance. Candidate must understand what "quality" means and be able to communicate and train "quality" to all field personnel. Candidate must be able to coach new staff and remind existing staff that completing project at the highest level of quality is an absolute must.
  5. Problem Solving. Candidate recognizes issues and problems interfering with the effectiveness of the projects, individual's or organization's performance and develops recommendations for resolution by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation or law.
  6. Oversee Safety Protocol. Oversee adherence to Federal, State and local OSHA requirements across all projects. Incumbent will demonstrate ability to recognize safety issues, make suggestions for changes, and provide solutions to insure compliance.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  1. 10 years supervisory experience in the commercial construction industry.
  2. Computer and Smart Phone Proficiency in Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, and Outlook.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  4. Qualify for access to Secure Facilities. Does not necessarily need security clearance.
  5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build consensus and agreement
  7. Proven ability to lead problem-solving discussions.
  8. Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects concurrently.
  9. Demonstrated leadership skills. Experience with coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback to employees as well as leading project teams.
